A shear closes a blade past an anvil in one clean motion — gentler on the plant, precise, and fast when you're making hundreds of cuts. A chainsaw tears through with a rotating chain, which is what you want for thicker or dead wood.
Rule of thumb: pruning living plants under 1.2 inches, take the HS-30. Anything thicker, or anything already on the ground, take a saw.
Wipe it dry after each session and put a light coat of oil on it — the oil bottle is in the box. Sap is what corrodes a blade, not use.
The SK5 blade takes a whetstone if it dulls, and it's replaceable when it eventually wears out. Don't cut wire, plastic or anything the tool isn't meant for.
